August 7, Vacuum played at the amusement park Liseberg in Gothenburg before an audience of 4,000 people. Some Russians are said to have been in attendance. Robert Velen was there and put up a webpage with a review and more pictures. Note Mattias new bearded look on the picture above! He says that the show lasted 40 minutes and featured 10 songs (of which "Science of the Sacred" was the encore):
- Tonnes Of Attraction
- Power
- Shape Of Things To Come
- Tears Of A Nation
- Satyricon
- Parallel Universe
- I Breathe
- Pride In My Religion
- Let The Mountain Come To Me
- Science Of The Sacred
There was also a promo gig in Linkoping on August 13, and one in Norrkoping. According to Mattias, they had an audience of something like 10,000 people on one of these occassions. Maybe there was some sort of festival going on somewhere? If you have any additional information, please email me. August 16, Vacuum performed three songs ("Tonnes of Attraction", "I Breathe", "Let the Mountain Come to Me") at the space exhibit "Mot manen" (="Towards the moon") at Kulturhuset, Stockholm. They performed directly on the floor against a backdrop of a TV screen showing footage of the first walk on the moon.
I spotted Mattias before the show as he was talking to Marina's boyfriend Fredrik(?). I walked up and said hello. Mattias looked a little puzzled before I told him who I was. His face shone up and he shook my hand and dragged me to Marina, "Look, David is here!" I said hello to Marina also. Mattias thought that they ought to do some t-shirts or something, at least for those on VacuumNet. Mattias is also very excited about the upcoming Depeche Mode concert and said that he had to get a backstage pass.
The show was fairly short and impromptu. There were no effects or anything, just plain music. This is not a show of great gestures, it simply feels sophisticated. The crowd was well-behaved too. Mattias said that is was OK is we came closer and that we were welcome to dance and jump, but no one ever did that.
After the gig, I walked up and talked to Vacuum's soundtechnician, who like me was going to see Prince/The Artist that same night. Alexander then walked up to me and smiled. I shook his hand and asked him if he remembered me. "Oh yes, Uppsala", he replied. Then the fans (among them a Russian girl) came swarming, and I slid away. I came back later to talk a bit to Alex about the new album. He said that the English record company wasn't satisfied with it: it was too dark. They wanted it to be more commercial, so 4 songs are being remixed, among them "Satyricon" and "Chant Like a Mantra". They are also recording a new song with Jacob Schulze, who helped with "I Breathe". Alex thought that the album recording had gone unusally fast, as they began only last November.
