Swedish band Vacuum was created at the end of 90th by Alexander Bard, former Army Of Lovers member. (Do you remember them?)
Their first attempts to slightly modernize extravagant pop-sound (characteristic of Army Of Lovers) were quite successful in North Europe and Russia. But judging by prolonged silence of the band it wasn’t enough success, which they expected for.
After some perturbations Alexander Bard has gone from the band, and then the keaborder with the name pleasant for Russian ear Marina Schiptjenko followed him. They left the vocalist Mattias Lindblom one on one with sound producer Anders Wollbeck. And it surprisingly appears for good meaning sound of the band.
Being together Lindblom and Wollbeck began playing refined and restrained synth-pop of quality comparable to such authoritative musicians as German De/Vision and Wolfsheim. At times they even flirt with another styles – flavour the sound with fruity guitar (“In The Dirt”) or build an airy construction from electro-percussion and enchanting sample of female voice singing the same piece (“Queen”). One shouldn’t seek anything extraordinary on this album, but we appreciate genre albums of high quality as well.
