Yes. Vacuum performance is that holiday, which is always with you, even through many years. The last tour of Vacuum in 1999 still stays a great holiday of joy for those, who have been at the concerts. And now Vacuum came as the participant of 5th festival "Chaika".
Generally speaking I had some doubts, if Vacuum with their music and lyrics would be to the point in the format of such a fest, because the most of the bands would play there hard-rock, rock and hip-hop. I even can't compare almost aestatic Vacuum lyrics with the lyrics of local bands.
Before Vacuum the public was banged by Belarussian band "Lyapis". And it was a bit misunderstandable, how the people, who had just danced for the hard-rock beats and the lyrics like from "day care" age, would receive Vacuum music. But it appeared I was doubtful in vane. Exactly Vacuum was to the point there. Probably it was because of contrast.
When "Lyapis" had finished their set, behind the back of compere I could see the man with the familiar face from the checking command of Vacuum. And there were also familiar faces of the musicians Fredrik and Olaf, checking the instruments. My friends (Brute and Satellite) and me started to push into the crowd, longing to be closer the stage. But although my hopes, that "Lyapis" fans will give a place to "Vacuum" fans, my hopes stayed in vane. The crowd became even bigger, and we could just go into the level of 4th line in front of the stage.
Unnoticeable for the public the guitarist and keyboardist of the modern Vacuum took their places and were ready to play. The compere still tried to joke about the next participant of the festival, but suddenly the powerful electronic chords and very beautiful melody started to sound. Like a wave of the wind, it blew him from the stage, and in the lights of sophit lamps to the joy of the crowd Mattias appeared there. He wore in black completely (shirt, trousers, jacket), with much more short hairdo, than he had the last time. Almost with the same one he performed in the show "I Afton Lantz" in 2002.
The sounds of appeared music seemed to be expressive, but very melodic beginning of the first song of Vacuum. It's a pity, but Mattias didn't announced, what is the title of the new song. We called it "It's easier..." as they were the first words of that song. The song sounded absolutely beautiful and with a great power. It was a right choice to start the concert, as the public liked it from the first chords! And the audience (even those, who didn't like Vacuum), momentally started to belong to the action on the stage. The song is absolutely new. Nobody of us hear it. But everybody liked.
The whole song list was:
1. It's easier
2. Power
3. Culture Of Night
4. Fools Like Me Can Change
5. My Melting Mood
6. Icaros
7. Anas Song
8. Starting
9. I Breathe
I will not talk many words about the each song. I just say, that except "I Breathe" all the songs we know were performed absolutely in another way. A bit more expressive and with a real passion. Especially "My Melting Mood". "Starting" also was performed wonderfully and became much more strong thing, that it was in the beginning, because Mattias sung it live and with the open heart. "I Breathe" was performed in the canonic version.
It appeared, the public knew Vacuum repertoire quite well. Although one moment the crowd started to demand "I Breathe" (I suspected then, maybe they didn't know other Vacuum songs), I could see, that many people in the crowd sung with Vacuum "Power", "Culture Of Night", "My Melting Mood", and even quite new in the Kiev "Starting" ("Internet is a great thing..." - Mattias commented this). My friends and I liked the absolutely new songs - Fools Like Me and Anas Song. And of course the song, from what Mattiias started the concert. All of them sounded great!
Anas song was the only song performed with just acoustic guitar accompaniment. And although a little difference, it was accepted by the public very well. It is very lyric and touchful thing. Nothing strange, people supported it. It too seemed to me, that "Fools like me" too could sound more sincerely and warm just with the acoustic guitar.
In general it was successful concert. Mattias was in "concert mood". He communicated with the audience, asked, if we would like to hear something really new, and the crowd roared "Yeees!". He promised, that soon we will see absolutely new album, and it will be not "Culture Of Night-3". In the beginning of his performance Mattias talked a little about the conferance to the joy of public. His musicians were also very nice. The keyboardist sung with Mattias in some parts, and guitarist played, smiling in the sharpest moments.
The concert was ended with the performance of the song "I Breathe". In the middle of the song Mattias came down of the stage and went to the first line of public, shaking their hands. I managed to present him flowers, when he was passing near my place.
Finishing "I Breathe" he returned to the stage and said goodbye to all. It was so unexpectedly soon! The concert seemed to be so short (but actually it last 45 minutes). The crowd cried asking him to return, but unfortunately he didn't. My friends and me went away from the stage in the sadness. We just didn't want any sounds except our favourite Vacuum.
But anyway the feeling of the holiday stayed with us. And the hope too. And also the endless gratitude. Thank all, who gave us this holiday feeling.
